Dressing for work everyday can be one of two things: exciting or difficult. I can say from personal experience that most days I wake up and go straight to my closet, looking for the perfect outfit to bring my personal style into work...some days it's easy for me to find said outfit; other days, I feel as though I have nothing to wear. Today, I want to share a few tips for workplace attire and a couple of ideas for inspiration.
The most obvious tip that I can give you is to dress like yourself. Sure, it's easy to flip through Vogue and fall in love with the outfits that you see but they aren't always practical for you or the office. Find pieces that look and feel like you. If you are unsure about what your personal style is, head on over to the Internet and take a style quiz like this one.
Another piece of advice that I stand behind wholeheartedly is to stick to classic pieces and add trendy accessories to dress them up. Keeping your wardrobe full of classic pieces such as a well-tailored blazer, a pencil skirt, a clean white blouse, closed-toed pumps, etc. will give you so many more outfit options than filling your wardrobe with trendy options. I'm not saying that you shouldn't pick up that fun floral dress you saw at the mall because you definitely should! I'm just saying, don't fill your wardrobe with those pieces that you will be done with six months from now.
Add a shot of color to your wardrobe with a bright shirt or colored pumps (not at the same time of course!) Try a black skirt with a sweater in your favorite shade of blue with some black pumps and minimal accessories. Keeping the color on one piece of clothing really will make your entire outfit pop.
You know that seriously stylish coworker who you see in passing that always looks as though she walked out of the pages of your favorite fashion magazine? She probably spends time online looking at fashion blogs and searching for inspiration just like you! I recommend checking out Pinterest or Polyvore when you need some inspiration. Pinterest is great if you are looking for a place where the outfits are already designed for you but if you prefer to put a few outfits together yourself, then Polyvore is the site for you. Both of the outfits below were put together by yours truly on Polyvore, outfit details are listed below each picture.
Be sure to leave any of your tips for dressing for work below and don't forget to check back weekly for new posts! Remember to dress for yourself and have fun while doing it! Chances are, you are probably someone's seriously stylish coworker too!
